Tencent responded to the moFCOM injunction by saying that it had had several rounds of communication with the US government, but no consensus had been reached

Tencent has just released an executive order issued by the US Secretary of Commerce in response to WeChat’s use in the US. The following is the full text of the response:

As an app that serves users overseas, WeChat has always adhered to local laws and regulations, and its data policies and procedures comply with the world’s most stringent privacy standards.

In order to protect the basic communication rights and interests of American users, we have had several rounds of communication with the US government during this period to find a proper solution. But unfortunately, the two sides have not yet reached an agreement.

We will continue to communicate with the U.S. government to pursue a long-term solution.
