More than 6.02 million cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the United States, and the university epidemic is spreading beyond campuses

According to the Global Real-time CoVID-19 Data Statistics system released by Johns Hopkins University, as of 6 PM EASTERN Time on August 31, a total of 6023,368 confirmed coVID-19 cases and 183,431 deaths have been reported in the United States. In the past 24 hours, there have been 32,403 new confirmed cases and 426 new deaths. The New York Times notes that colleges across the country are moving out of campus and infecting surrounding communities, a worrying trend that does not bode well for other schools opening this fall. Of the 20 metro areas with the largest increase in new cases per capita in the past two weeks, nearly half were university towns where large public universities had just reopened. At the University of Alabama, for example, more than 1,200 students and 166 faculty members have been infected.
