A Turkish F-16 fighter jet has shot down an Armenian Su-25 fighter jet, the Armenian Defense Ministry said, according to a report just released by Russia’s Sputnik News agency.
According to Armenia, the pilot of an Armenian fighter jet shot down by Turkey has been killed, the Russian satellite news agency Sputnik reports. The Armenian Defense Ministry also mentioned on Monday that the Armenian Su-25 fighter jet was shot down by Turkish warplanes in Armenian airspace.
A new round of clashes broke out between Armenia and Azerbaijan in nagorno-Karabakh on Thursday, with both sides accusing each other of violating the ceasefire agreement and launching the first military offensive. “We believe that the conflict can be resolved through peaceful negotiations, but The Asian side has no interest in anything other than continuing to occupy Azerbaijani territory,” Turkish Presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said Tuesday.

The nagorno-Karabakh region is located in southwestern Azerbaijan and is mostly inhabited by ethnic Armenians. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, A war broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh, and Armenia occupied nagorno-Karabakh and parts of the former Azerbaijani territory. Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed on a comprehensive ceasefire in 1994, but the two countries have been locked in hostilities over Nagorno-Karabakh, and armed clashes between the two countries have been sporadic.
