In the Social Committee, Health Minister Heiner Garg (FDP) announced today that older people will in future be invited to vaccination appointments by post.
In the future, people over 80 will receive an information letter with a personal PIN code and a telephone number. According to Health Minister Heiner Garg, you can then make an appointment at a vaccination center Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The new procedure will start on February 8th, according to the Ministry of Health, letters will be sent from January 28th. Within the group of people over 80 years of age, the oldest should receive the letter first.
Dates only from spring
Another innovation: the appointment bookings are then no longer only possible for the following week, but for a longer period of time. Health Minister Heiner Garg wants to ensure that people without internet access can easily get a vaccination appointment: “Everyone will be able to make an appointment by phone. Without stress, without hurry. If more appointments are available in the future, people will be by phone contacted me and asked if they would like an earlier appointment. ” Due to the shortage of the vaccine, however, there will only be appointments for many people who want to be vaccinated in spring or early summer.

Only appointments for people over 80 by phone
Starting next week, only people over the age of 80 should get appointments via the telephone hotline.
The ministry announced this on Tuesday. Nursing staff or employees of the rescue service can book the other appointments online later in the day – no longer by telephone. According to the ministry, the procedure should be straightened out.
Second vaccination appointments are postponed
The Ministry of Health also announced that the interval between the two corona vaccinations in Schleswig-Holstein will be extended. Previously, 21 days were planned for this – now it is 35 days.
The reason is the revised recommendations of the Standing Vaccination Commission. She now recommends a second vaccination within up to six weeks. In any case, there must be at least three or four weeks between the two vaccinations, depending on the vaccine. This has no effect on appointments already booked in the vaccination centers.
The hospitals are also postponing their second vaccinations.
Much criticism of the previous procedure
In the run-up, there had been a lot of criticism of the procedure for assigning vaccination appointments. Many people who wanted to be vaccinated complained that the appointments were taken within a few minutes. Criticism also came from the SPD parliamentary group in the Kiel state parliament.
The social policy spokeswoman, Birte Pauls, spoke of a “very special kind of imposition” in the award procedure.
Garg:
The main problem is the shortage of vaccines
The next vaccination appointments can be booked next week Tuesday (January 19th) from 8 a.m. An extension of the bookable dates depends on the availability of the vaccine. As long as the basic problem of the scarce vaccine remains, there will be no fundamental solution to the vaccination appointments, said Garg. 325,000 Schleswig-Holsteiners, who are among the first vaccination priority, are only 7,700 vaccination appointments per week due to the vaccine shortage, according to Garg.
