The player safety department announced its sanction in the evening Thursday, the day after the game between the Blues and the Avalanche. St. Louis won 4 to 1.
In the first half, Blais hit his rival from behind the net and the point of impact was the defender’s header. Toews momentarily retired to the locker room before returning to the game.
Blais found himself in the penalty box following his gesture.
Quinn on the reserve team
The Buffalo Sabers announced Thursday morning that they have placed Jack Quinn with the roster’s reserve team. Quinn joined the Sabers’ training camp at the end of the World Junior Hockey Championship.
The 19-year-old forward has one goal and four assists in seven games with Junior Team Canada. He was the Sabers’ first-round pick, 8th overall, in 2020.
Last year in the OHL, he scored 52 goals and added 37 assists in 62 games.
Forsberg returns to waivers
The Carolina Hurricanes put goaltender Anton Forsberg’s name on waiver hours after claiming it.
According to Pierre LeBrun, the Canes made this decision after another goalkeeper of the organization, Alex Nedeljkovic had gone through waivers without finding a taker.
Forsberg, who was with the Oilers before being claimed by Carolina, remained in Edmonton. He would not have to submit to the mandatory 14-day quarantine period if he remains in the Canadian division.
